(narration) A wheel is one of the best inventions of the humanity. The wheel consists of the rotational device ‘hub’ and multiple ‘spokes’ that extend from the hub. The wheel can move only when the tension of the spokes and the rotational force of the hub are delivered to the outer edge of the wheel. The hub and spokes look like a ‘value chain’ where different functions come together to achieve a common goal. The ‘value chain’ resembles the multiple agents that connect with each other and move forward towards ‘gender equality.’

(narration) Established in 2003, the Korean Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education has strenuously moved the wheel towards the value of gender equality, as the hub of gender equality education and culture. This is how our value chain operates.

(narration) We have researched and developed curricula and subjects that reflect the voices and demands from relevant users. Our curricula and subjects are being used for educating public officials on gender-sensitive policies.

(narration) We are also carrying out education programs on violence prevention to foster specialized personnel such as professional instructors and counselors.

(narration) We take a ‘gender-sensitive perspective’ and draw a feasible solution to the problems of reality, by using innovative education methods based on various texts and examples. This is how we ‘improve the gender sensitivity’ of the learners and help create the institutional foundation for a gender-equal society.

(narration) In an effort to prevent the gender-discriminatory culture and the distorted gender stereotypes of our society from leading to gender-based violence, we prepared concrete ideas such as ‘the guideline for creating organizational culture of gender equality and preventing sexual violence as well as the procedures to proactively prevent the second victimization.’ By doing so, we are putting gender equality education into practice, with ceaseless efforts to bring about a better tomorrow.

(narration) Based upon the recognition that a gender-equal society can be achieved when the members of the society experience ‘gender equality culture in their daily lives’, the Korean Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education has carried out diverse activities to promote gender equality culture at an individual citizen level, at an organizational cultural level, and across domestic and overseas gender equality network.
